Marathon Sports, a well-known operator of running stores and a hub for runners in the Northeastern United States, has announced the acquisition of the Six03 Trail Races series and the historic Cranmore Mountain Race, marking a significant step in its growth strategy in the world of trail running.
The agreement includes a consolidated portfolio of races ranging from classic mountain races to ultra distances, strengthening the region’s trail calendar and increasing the appeal for athletes of different levels. Events included in the acquisition are: Dickson’s Revenge, Kismet Cliff Run, Loon Mountain Race, Ragged 75 (Stage Race and 50 K), Sunapee Scramble, and Vulcan’s Fury. The 2026 race portfolio will offer a total prize purse exceeding $100,000, a significant amount in the North American trail events landscape.
Leadership and new vision
As part of the integration, Tom Hooper, founder of Six03, will join the Marathon Sports team with the responsibility of leading the company’s Trail Running Initiative. In this role, he will be tasked with overseeing event development, creating experiences tailored to trail runners, potential running teams, and expanding the specific trail retail offering within Marathon Sports stores.
The operation also reflects the company’s desire to solidify the reputation of the New England region as a primary destination for trail running globally, leveraging iconic mountain landscapes and the local community of enthusiasts.
