ASICS strengthens its presence in the field of research and development in Europe with the establishment of the ASICS Institute of Sport Science Europe, a new facility dedicated to sports innovation and integrated within ASICS Europe B.V. The new center will collaborate with European scientific and technological partners, contributing to the group’s global R&D activities in coordination with the ASICS Institute of Sport Science in Kobe, Japan. This new reality represents a strategic step for the Japanese brand, which aims to develop products more directly tailored to the needs of European athletes. Europe is indeed identified by ASICS as one of the key markets for the brand’s growth and as a territory where many professional athletes associated with the company train and compete.
Strategic Partnership with HumanFab
In parallel with the establishment of ISS Europe, ASICS has announced a strategic partnership with HumanFab, a center of excellence specializing in sports research and human performance analysis. The goal is to enhance testing activities on athletes and accelerate innovation in Europe, focusing initially on the discipline of tennis. Thanks to this collaboration, ASICS will have access to the advanced facilities of HumanFab, including an indoor tennis laboratory designed to allow complete biomechanical analysis on a regulation court. The measurements will enable researchers to acquire performance data, such as ball speed and rotation, with a level of precision intended to complement the work already carried out by the ASICS research center in Japan.
Data, Biomechanics, and Product Development
The information gathered through the tests will help deepen the understanding of high-level athlete performance and will be used in the development of the next generation of tennis-specific products. “Having a testing environment in Europe will allow us to integrate advanced technologies and real-time data directly into our research and development activities,” said Mitsuyuki Tominaga, president and COO of ASICS. According to Tominaga, the facility will help accelerate the innovation processes and assist athletes in achieving the highest level of performance and comfort. The initiative is part of ASICS’ broader Global Integrated Enterprise approach, aimed at connecting regional expertise and knowledge from athletes around the world to promote long-term innovation and growth.
