Telling the natural landscape at the Activation Days with EOCA and Bioblitz

16 April 2026

Among the activities scheduled at the Activation Days (Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 May), in addition to experiences with the brands, there will also be a naturalistic outing aimed at narrating the landscape, enhancing and understanding its biodiversity, and sharing a didactic moment in close contact with the territory all together. This is the Citizen Science Bioblitz Walking Workshop, organized in collaboration between EOCA – European Outdoor Conservation Association and The Home River Bioblitz, which will take place on Saturday 16 May from 10:00 to 12:30.

Who are EOCA and Bioblitz

The European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA) is a non-profit organization created in 2006 by the European Outdoor Group with the aim of increasing the impact and attention of the outdoor sector to the natural environment through joint work, rather than individual. With its nearly 140 members, EOCA supports and finances an increasing number of conservation, protection, and regeneration projects worldwide, safeguarding the flora and fauna of even the most remote environments. So far, the association has funded 214 projects in 65 countries, investing around €6 million in conservation projects.

The Home River Bioblitz is a community project that can be organized independently and in one’s own locality. A “bioblitz” is an effort made by a community of citizens with the aim of recording a wide variety of species in a specific area within a certain period of time. It is a way to connect people with the environment they inhabit, paying attention to details that are normally overlooked and at the same time generating useful data for scientific and conservation purposes. The Home River Bioblitz specifically focuses on the biodiversity of rivers, considered the heart of ecosystems and bearers of stories.

The Citizen Science Bioblitz Walking Workshop

An activity of nature exploration that combines guided walking and naturalistic deepening, the Citizen Science Bioblitz Walking Workshop is organized in collaboration with EOCA and The Home River Bioblitz. During this approximately 3-4 hour route, participants will explore the natural environment along the river, learning to recognize different species of plants and animals with the support of expert guides. The experience will alternate moments of observation, brief educational insights, and simple data collection activities, actively contributing to the monitoring of local biodiversity.
